Shippers Supply, at 1888 Spall Road, is celebrating 15 years in business in Kelowna.
Managed by Ron Campbell, who has been with the company since 1988 and in Kelowna for the past couple of years, Ron is also a corporate trainer for the company with the Kelowna office employing four staff. A 100 per cent Canadian-owned private company started in 1975, Shippers Supply is both a manufacturer and distributor of quality packing supplies and warehouse equipment with its head office in Edmonton and nine locations across Western Canada. Shippers provides just about anything you would use in your shipping, warehouse and packaging departments. Some of the products the firm manufactures and distributes include corrugated boxes, labels, tags, printed packaging tape, pallet wraps, loose fill packing peanuts, label printers, pricing guns, stencil cutters and inks, dangerous goods labels, print cards, storage bins, pallet racking and shelving. Shippers also offer material handling equipment including pallet jacks, stackers, lift tables, conveyors, loading dock equipment, strip door curtains and door seals.

Kudos to Luke Stack and the Society of Hope on receiving a prestigious provincial award in recognition of their ongoing support of the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves. Society of Hope employee Private Jesse Lawrence, a reservist with 30 Signals Regiment in Kelowna, nominated his employer to receive an award in the Best Practices in Employer Support, Small Organization category. The Society of Hope is extremely supportive of reservists and regularly gives them time off so they can participate in unit exercises, career courses and domestic operations. The company also tops-up the reservists91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™ pay to enable them to not be adversely affected by their service. The award will be formally presented at a ceremony in Vancouver.

Jolene Laing is the new branch manager of ScotiaMcLeod at 600-1620 Dixon Ave. in Landmark 5. Jolene has been in the investment advisory industry since 1999, joining ScotiaMcLeod in 2005, working as branch manager of their Kelowna, Salmon Arm and Kamloops offices. Jolene still manages their White Rock branch along with the Kelowna branch and is a director at Scotia Wealth Management.
Pardeep Khrod has returned to the Interior (she grew up in Golden) to take on the new role as executive director for the Interior at the BC Cancer Foundation. Pardeep was previously a senior development officer with BCIT. Joining her is Carmen Weld, who after years as a digital news editor and journalist in the Okanagan with Black Press Media (91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ) and Castanet, has taken over the new role as development officer. Congratulations to Ed Dickins for being awarded the Sovereign91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s Medal for Volunteers. An official Canadian honour, this medal recognizes the exceptional volunteer achievements of individuals from across the country or abroad in a wide range of fields and is an official honour created by the Crown, recognizing living Canadians. The Chancellery of Honours, part of the Office of the Secretary of the Governor General administers the program.
The Kelowna Curling Club under the stewardship of general manager Jock Tyre was presented with the Tourism Kelowna Sport Hosting Award for its outstanding effort in hosting the 2018 Winn Rentals World Mixed Curling Championships on Oct. 13 to 20 as a 2018 premier event. Event co-chairs were Brendan Willis, of Raymond James, and Jeff Richards, general manager of Sunset Ranch. Canada took the gold, defeating Spain in the final. The championships was the fourth edition of the event, but the first time it was held outside Europe, with 140 of the world91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s best curlers representing 35 international teams.
Fiona Lindquist, previously with the local RCMP Victim Services group, has transitioned from that role and joined Dr. Sam Reimer with Restoration Counselling Services. Okanagan College Business Students are boasting bronze after capturing third place from a field of 30 student teams at the Scotiabank Canadian Case Challenge. The competition, which was held at Vanier College in Montreal, melds business strategy, marketing and management into one of the most challenging collegiate competitions in the country. Blair Baldwin, Okanagan School of Business professor and Mark Ziebarth coached the team.
