A new retail shop Cake for Breakfast has opened at 901 Ellis St. in Kelowna.

Owned and operated by long-time baker Kayla Bjornson and her husband Red Seal chef Blake Bjornson, Cake for Breakfast was established in 2021, operating solely as an online customer and wedding cake shop.  The new storefront will open in December on Fridays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for cake slices, treats and specialty coffee, serving the special blend coffee roasted by The Local Chemist Coffee Roasters. The rest of the week, they still operate their online cake shop with custom and wedding cakes that they are famous for at . Cake for Breakfast91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s most popular baked items are the salted caramel walnut bars and the red velvet raspberry cake that is made with local raspberries. Kayla and Blake sent me home with the red velvet raspberry cake, salted caramel walnut bars and gluten free walnut banana bread with espresso butter frosting. All were incredible. Some of the other items offered are matcha pistachio raspberry crispies, candy cookies, caramel cornflake brownies, pumpkin spice snack cake, strawberry cheesecake, and chocolate peanut butter pie. Just in time for the holiday season and perfect gift is their popular cookie boxes with a mixture of classic cookies, bars, and fun new takes. You can purchase the boxes in several sizes. Cake for Breakfast partner with Lavender and Lace Floral Farm and Design, so you can pick up a fresh floral bouquet with your baking.          

Sena College of Massage Therapy, Kelowna91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s newest institution for massage therapy education, will launch its two-year Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) diploma program in January 2025. Founded by Lindsey Sloan, program director and an RMT for over 17 years of practice and eight years in massage therapy education, the college emerged from her passion for the industry and unforeseen challenges. The college is dedicated to fostering student success both academically and personally, fostering confident, skilled and compassionate massage therapists. Located at 400-1632 Dickson Ave., the modern new facility is currently accepting applications for January, 2025 intake.

George Greenwood has been appointed as the new CEO of the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce. George has more than 20 years in leadership experience and brings a wealth of knowledge from member-based organizations across the country, including credit unions. Most recently he served as CEO of the Association of Interior Realtors in Kelowna. One of his priorities will be to review the chamber91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s value proposition to enhance member value while growing a sustainable and diverse membership base. Maryse Harvey is the president of the Kelowna Chamber.

Dr. Paul Martin has joined Okanagan College as the Dean of Teaching and Learning Innovations overseeing academic learning resources and OC Library Services. He beings his new job Jan. 6, 2025.  Dr. Martin comes to OC from his current position as the director, curriculum development and delivery, open learning at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops. In 2013, Dr. Martin won the Gabrielle Roy Prize for his book, Sanctioned Ignorance: the politics of knowledge production and the teaching of the literatures of Canada.

The Pandosy Neighbourhood Association will auction off a stunning mural from the 2022 Imagine Pandosy Art Festival created by local artist Jomae and sponsored by Westcorp. Inspired by Ernest Hemingway91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s book The Old Man and the Sea, this mural embodies themes of hope, gratitude and perseverance. Currently displayed on the Paddle Centre fence at Kelowna91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s Waterfront Park, the mural is available for auction to raise funds for future community projects. With the Paddle Center set for redevelopment next year, this is a unique opportunity to own a meaningful piece of Kelowna91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s art scene. BCG is celebrating 65 years of supporting children, youth and families with the launch of a crucial fundraising campaign to sustain programs that empower young lives. Programs like Upstream and Youth Shelter play a vital role in building resilience in youth facing barriers. BCG is inviting the community to become a monthly or annual donor at . Anyone who signs up before 2 p.m., Dec. 31will be entered to win two tickets anywhere WestJet flies. The first 65 monthly donors will also receive an extra entry into the draw.

The Downtown Rotary Club of Kelowna has made a donation of $50,000 to Metro Community. The donation will fund a major expansion of Metro91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s Hygiene Program. The program offers, to the homeless community at no cost, showers, laundry service, ID provision, wound care, and case work. Since Metro began this program in 2021, more than 1,250 people have accessed these services. After the renovation, Metro will be able to double the showers and laundry capacity, which will offer 1,000 showers per month and wash 540 loads of laundry per month. Joel Feddersen is the executive director of Metro and Bruce Wilson is on the donation committee of Downtown Rotary.

The 7th annual Kelowna Christmas Turkey Drive in support of the food bank is Friday, Dec.13, at Immaculata Regional High School, 1493 KLO Rd. The students of IMAC will accept frozen turkeys and monetary donations between 6 and 10 a.m. All monetary donations will go directly towards the purchase of turkeys.
