Birth rates are on the decline in Vernon.

The B.C. Vital Statistics Agency posted their province wide stats for births per community health service area.

The stats are based on the residential address postal code of the mother, per month in 2023. Still births were excluded.

In 2022, for the Vernon Central/Coldstream area there were 410 births. That number is down in 2023 to 399.

Most surprisingly, there were just seven births in December of 2023, by far the fewest of the year. January had the most, with 40.

In 2022, Armstrong/Spallumcheen had 90 births. In 2023, there were 92 births. North Okanagan/Lumby saw an eight birth increase, up 106 from 98 in 2022.
