PHOTOS: More than 400 skiers take to Shuswap91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s Larch Hills for annual loppet

Event marks 40th anniversary of Reino Keski-Salmi Loppet

More than 400 athletes earned bragging rights for having taken part in the 40th annual Reino Keski-Salmi Loppet at Larch Hills over the weekend.

The event was marked by ample snow on the ground, a bit of sunshine in the sky, and the hundreds of competitors, supporters, volunteers and others at Larch Hills on Saturday morning, Jan. 20, who helped make the 40th anniversary of the Shuswap91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s premiere loppet a success.

Hosts the Larch Hills Nordic Society had many Larch Hills Nordic Ski Club members to cheer on in the event that saw participants ski in competitive distances of 5-, 10-, 17- and 34-kilometres, and recreational distances 10-, 17 and 30-km. A number of them were among top-five finishers in numerous categories.

Local results for the competitive races included: Abbigail May, Sheila Corbett, Laura Hepburn and Daphne Brown, 1st to 4th place in the 34 km, 50-59 female category; Robin Butler and Fearghus Dicker, 4th and 5th place in the 34 km 50-59 male; Megan Brooke, 2nd, 40-49 Female; Lisa Nikmo, 4th, 34 km, 30-39; Maggie Beckner and Rachel Bates, 3rd and 4th, 34km, 18-29; Madeline Wilkie and Sapphira Bucher, 1st and 5th, 17km, U18 (14-17) female); Reinhard Liebich, 1st, 17 km 80-plus male; Joyce Wessel, 17 km 80-plus female; Gary Hartling, 4th, 17 km 70-79 male; Afke Zonderland, Kerry Miller, Marcia Beckner and Pauline Waelti, 2nd to 5th, 17 km 70-79 female; Gideon Breugem, Kieran Parker and Grayson Styles, 1st, 4th and 5th, 10 km U14 (12-13) male; Adele Bollans and Kiara Zuidhof, 4th and 5th, 10 km U14 (12-13) female; Lily Brook, 1st, 7 km Para Nordic 18 and over female; Kaden Baum, 1st, 7 km Para Nordic 8-17 Male; Kai Thingsted, 4th, 5 km U12 male; Tove Brown, 2nd, U12 female; Henry Bollans, Logan Marjoribanks Aguirre and Gideon Bucher, 2nd, 3rd and 5th, 5 km U10 male; Luka Larson, 4th, 5 km U10 female; Merrick Hazelton and Otis Noestheden-Tanner, 2nd and 4th, 2 km U8 male; Theadora Larson, Maryn McEachern, 1st and 2nd, 2 km U8 female; Marcus Ritchie, Edwyn Connelly, Silas Noestheden-Tanner and Farley Harker, 1st to 4th, 1 km U5 male, and Willa Robillard and Ana Widmer, 4th and 5th, 1 km U5 female.
