She lives in a place operated by the Good Samaritan Canada organization.
And the name is rubbing off on resident Bonnie Wraight, who lives at the Good Samaritan's Heron Grove facility in Vernon.
Wraight, says Heron Grove spokesperson Chris Smith, is "an outspoken advocate for the care of seniors in our community," and recently became a Good Samaritan herself.
Wraight backed up her advocacy by deciding to create a food hamper for a deserving fellow senior, and this is where she was introduced to Tish Scott of Vernon-based The Silver Citizen, a business "providing services and solutions to those individuals that will benefit from it." The goal, says Scott, is to "make the lives of the retirement community easier and more comfortable maintaining independent living."
Scott was asked by Wraight who she thought would be a good fit for a food hamper, and Scott quickly found someone.
But one was not enough.
Wraight sparked enough interest at Heron Grove's assisted living quarters to have the residents, staff, and families donate enough food for four seniors. In fact, said Smith, there was enough food donated for a whole Christmas chicken dinner with all of the trimmings.
"In addition, Bonnie provided other valuable food stuff and everyday items," he said. "She put in a lot of hard work to make four seniors' lives a little easier this Christmas season."
