Cinderella is swapping her glass slippers for ballet slippers during the annual Winter Production by the Studio Dance and Wellness in Revelstoke.
Local dancers will bring the Disney cartoon version of Cinderella to life, with the titular princess, the prince, the evil stepmother and her daughters, as well as all the critter characters taking the stage. Audiences are invited to join Cinderella as she tiptoes through her chores before pirouetting into her ballgown and jetéing into Prince Charming's life.
The main roles have portrayed a cast of 17 dancers who had to audition for their roles, while the regular classes will breakdown other parts of the story that will be highlighted through dance, such as the three to five-year-old ballet class as pumpkins and the eight to 11-year hip hop class as royal guards.
Altogether, the production includes 117 dancers aged three to 17, they've got together in just nine weekends of rehearsals. It will also feature a variety of dance styles, including ballet, jazz, musical theatre, lyrical and hip-hop.
"Our Winter Production has always been the highlight of our dance season and a wonderful way to showcase Revelstoke's local dance talent," Studio owners Jacqui Gardiner and Kenley Knock said in a media release. "It's also a great way for families to come together and enjoy a night out."
The show's run time is two hours, including an intermission that offers a concession that is licensed for evening performances. Performances will take place at the Revelstoke Performing Arts Centre on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 5 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 15 with a matinee at 11 a.m. and an evening show at 5 p.m.
