Vancouver artist Casey Wei has won this year91Ƶs $25,000 Philip B. Lind Emerging Artist Prize.
She was among five contenders who displayed their work at The Polygon Gallery in North Vancouver in the Lind Biennial exhibition.
Wei91Ƶs video installation, titled The Zhang Clan, spans three screens as it explores her mother91Ƶs family91Ƶs migration to Melbourne, Australia from China after the Tiananmen Square massacre.
Lind jurors praise the work for 91Ƶupending the conventions of documentary filmmaking91Ƶ and say Wei 91Ƶsuccessfully transposes her DIY esthetics and community-based art into a gallery setting.91Ƶ
The Lind Prize is awarded biannually to an emerging British Columbia-based artist.
The other finalists this year include Mena El Shazly, Karice Mitchell, Dion Smith-Dokkie and Parumveer Walia.
The exhibition will be on display at The Polygon Gallery until Feb. 2.
