BC Lions linebacker and W.J. Mouat grad Bo Lokombo has announced retirement from professional football.

The 34-year-old posted the decision to hang up his cleats on Tuesday (Jan. 21).

Lokombo was on his third stint with the Lions and returned to the team for this run in 2021.

91裸聊视频淎t 34 years old, I felt it was the right time," he said in a press release. "I want to be closer to my family. The only thing I91裸聊视频檓 going to miss is competing with my brothers for a championship. I will be cheering on the guys, supporting not only the Lions but the CFL as a whole.91裸聊视频

91裸聊视频淚 have so many people to thank, starting with the Lions organization for drafting me back in 2013, helping me be part of the organization and helping me become a man," he added.

Born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lokombo starred for years on the gridiron with the Mouat Hawks, suiting up as both linebacker, wide receiver and running back for the team. He was named the AAA eastern conference's offensive most valuable player in his senior year, racking up 1,556 rushing yards and 728 receiving yards to go with 47 tackles and four interceptions on the defensive side of the ball.

From there, he committed to the University of Oregon playing under head coach Chip Kelly. Lokombo and the Ducks lost in the National Championship Game in his first year, and then went on to win the Rose Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl and the Alamo Bowl in the years following.

He was selected by the Lions in the third round (21st overall) of the 2013 CFL draft, despite most experts predicting Lokombo would be scooped up by an NFL team in the 2014 draft.

However, a torn labrum in his draft eligible year created enough doubt in NFL scouts minds that he was passed over by all 32 teams, and wasn't one of the 256 players selected.

Lokombo suited up with the Lions from 2014-16 and earned West Division All-Star in his second season. He then signed with the Baltimore Ravens in early-2017 and remained with the squad until late September before practice roster stints with the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders.

Lokombo returned home in 2018 and recorded new career-highs in tackles (71), sacks (4) and interceptions (2).

After joining the Montreal Alouettes for the 2019 campaign, Lokombo re-joined his original team for the final four seasons of his career. His 2021 campaign produced 66 tackles, four sacks, a career-high three interceptions and one defensive touchdown in the shortened 14-game regular season. That season he was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian.

Across 118 total regular season games with the Lions, Lokombo climbed to 11th on the club91裸聊视频檚 all-time list with 319 defensive tackles while adding 17 sacks, eight interceptions and four forced fumbles.

The linebacker was also a staple in the club91裸聊视频檚 community initiatives, most recently as a supporter of World Vision Canada. Lokombo accompanied a group of CFL representatives on a trip to Kenya in 2024 and last season agreed to graciously donate $200 to World Vision for every sack recorded by the Lions91裸聊视频 defence after Labour Day. The end total was $1,600.

"Bo has been a Lion for nine of his 10 years in pro football, starting when we drafted him back in 2013," stated Lions general manager Ryan Rigmaiden. "During that time, he has had an excellent career, including winning the CFL91裸聊视频檚 Most Outstanding Canadian Award. We were proud to have him on the field and in the community for so many years and we wish him and his family the best as he moves forward with life after football.91裸聊视频

Lokombo and his family now reside in Chilliwack. Lokombo's brother Nelson is a defensive back with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, while his brother Leon is an independent pro wrestler known as The Mighty Lokombo. His final game was a playoff loss to Nelson and the Roughriders.
