Kelowna RCMP's Community Safety Unit (CSU) conducted another successful Project Barcode from Dec. 2-7.
During the operation, CSU officers and Loss Prevention Officers (LPOs) worked together to target shoplifters in town. According to RCMP, shoplifting is one of the most widespread crime types and is consistently one of the main drivers to Kelowna's Crime Severity Index (CSI).
Over the course of the six days, officers arrested 47 people, with 12 of them having outstanding warrants. Many of them had to be held in custody and appear in court. Seven of the suspects had little to no criminal history and were referred to restorative justice. Their participation is required to steer clear of the charges.
Officers also found a fake firearm on one suspect and impounded two vehicles due to Motor Vehicle Act related offences.
