A group of bowling aficionados from the Rutland Seniors Centre in Kelowna took home gold in a match that was a nail-biter right until the last rock, at the 55+ BC Games in Salmon Arm.
The 55+ BC Games are the province's largest annual multi-sport event for people over the age of 55.
From Sept. 11-15, people from across the province descended upon Salmon Arm to compete at the Games in their respective sport.
The gold medal winning team from Kelowna is comprised of Skip John Kooistra, Second Vera Senger, Lead Patricia Urbanowski and Third Dennis Urbanowski.
The four Rutand-based bowlers had to defeat eight other teams from across the province in a round-robin-stye competition to clinch the win.
Coming into the last game of the competition, the Rutland team had a record of four wins, one loss and one tie.
At the end of the seventh end, the team was down four points. Despite the adversity, they did not give up and continued bowling with dreams of gold. In the last end, there was a glimmer of hope as the team accrued nearly enough points.
Then, in an ending straight out of movie, Skip Kooistra threw the last rock in for the win.
"It was a very exciting ending," said the team after the event.
