Known as one of five Canadian fighter pilots to be nicknamed 'Topgun', retired Colonel Phil Engstad is being welcomed to Kelowna's KF Aerospace Centre for Excellence on Nov. 27.
Engstad grew up in Burns Lake and Nelson before heading to Ontario to join the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1961.
After receiving his wings in 1964, Engstad was involved in various training programs, flew for the U.S. Air Force, and became a founding member of 419 Tactical Squadron.
The pilot was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel in 1981 and Colonel in 1986. He received the Meritorious Service medal from the Governor General in 1992.
The public is invited to hear Engstad speak on Nov. 27 and learn more about his career as part of KF's Legendary Speaker series.
The event starts at 6 p.m. with a $10 entry fee.
Those interested are asked to RSVP by calling 250-807-5353 or emailing events@kfcentre.ca.
