Transportation takes up the largest slice of the city91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s 10-year Capital Plan at $726 million.
The largest projects are the Highway 33/Clement Avenue extension, the KLO Bridge replacement, upgrades to major intersections, active transportation corridors, and transit and programs.
Investment in transportation has doubled according to a draft report going to council on Aug. 26.
The Transportation Accelerator Program (TAP) sets aside $170 million for road improvements:
- Frost Road to Chute Lake;
- Hollywood Rd. - Sexmsith to John Hindle;
- Burtch Rd. - Springfield to KLO;
- Glenmore Rd. - Union to Snowsell;
- Lakeshore Rd - Lanfranco to Cook and Lexington to DeHart.
Other investments in the Capital Plan highlight buildings (including recreation and culture) at $441M, and parks at $358M.
The building portfolio adds significant investment to renew and modernize several projects:
- Parkinson Recreation Centre redevelopment - $189 million;
- Building renewal - $80 million;
- MNP expansion - $43 million;
- Glenmore Protective Services building - $39 million;
- Mission Activity Centre - $28 million;
- Glenmore Activity Centre - $24 million;
- Rutland Lions Activity Centre - $23 million.
Approximately $553 is earmarked for water, wasterwater, storm drainage and solid waste projects. Fire services, real estate/parking, vehicles/equipment, and information services total $165M.
Funding for the Capital Plan comes from taxation and reserves ($1.023B), borrowing ($677M), development cost charges ($665M), and grants ($229M).
