Fire crews arrived at 2639 Hwy 97 North to discover a blaze in a unit on the second floor of Heath House.
Crews were able to quickly knock down the flames before the fire caused any serious damage. Residents told Capital News the building filled with smoke and they were all told to evacuate.
Firefighters had to ventilate the building due to the smoke. According to fire crews on scene, no one was injured. The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
Heath House is operated by the Canadian Mental Health Association in Kelowna and has 40 units of supportive housing for adults, including couples aged 19 and older.
Fire officials stated that with a larger building that houses multiple tenants requires a larger response, which is why multiple fire engines and command units were on scene.
Multiple fire crews were called to Heath House on Highway 97 North in Kelowna for a possible structure fire, Friday afternoon.
The blaze appeared to have been started in one of the units of the supportive housing building.
The incident was first reported just before 1 p.m.
