Homeowner, neighbours fight flames with garden hose in Rutland garage fire

The fire was contained to the garage of the home

A minor structure fire in Rutland on Wednesday, Aug. 7 was quickly doused by the Kelowna Fire Department (KFD), the homeowner and neighbours in the area.

KFD was called to the scene around 3:30 p.m. after they received a report of light smoke coming from a garage at a home in the 500 block of Monterey Road.

When they arrived at the scene, fire crews observed smoke coming from the back of the garage. The home owner and neighbours were using a garden hose to douse the blaze when fire crews stepped in to extinguish it fully and make sure it didn't extend any further.

The house suffered no damage as the fire was contained to just one corner of the garage.

Neither the homeowner, neighbours, or firefighters were injured while battling the small blaze.

It's unknown how the fire started, but it has been deemed not suspicious.

KFD responded with a total of 17 personnel.
