No home for hygiene centre to help unhoused in West Kelowna

After being put on hold in June, a hygiene centre for people experiencing homelessness in West Kelowna will not be going ahead as proposed.

A staff report to the city council notes that 91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵœkey partnering organizations have indicated they are no longer interested in pursuing the proposed hygiene centre in the proposed location (2545 Churchill Road).91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ

It also stated the centre will not be proceeding as outlined and no additional reporting is anticipated at this time.

The Westside Resource Hygiene Centre was postponed at the council91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s June 11 meeting due to concerns with the location. It is just a few hundred metres from two schools, and Julia91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s Junction playground.

Staff was also requested to provide a report outlining how the city and partnering agencies would mitigate any negative impacts on the surrounding neighbourhood.

At the June 11 meeting, the council heard that there were approximately 75 unhoused individuals in West Kelowna.
