Quick cash grab caught on camera as ATM stolen from Black Mountain gas station

The incident occurred early Friday morning, Dec. 6

A suspect was determined as they allegedly waited two hours before stealing the ATM from the Canco gas station/convenience store early on Friday morning, Dec. 6.

According to a social media post made by Canco, the suspect's pursuit of the ATM started just after 3 a.m.  However, someone who frequents the area saw the suspect and stopped them. The suspect got back into a blue truck and left the scene, but arrived back to the store at 4:26 a.m.

As they reportedly began to attempt the robbery again, an RV passed, which forced the suspect to leave again.

But just eight minutes later, the suspect arrived again and backed the truck into the convenience store, smashing the front window out. The crash is seen on a surveillance video, along with the suspect running into the store and strapping up the ATM to drag it out. As the suspect attempted to drive away, the ATM got stuck on the broken glass and debris, forcing the suspect to once again get out of the truck and adjust the machine, eventually being able to drive away.

The social media post also explained that the ATM became dislodged again after the truck drove off and the suspect was forced to place it in front of his truck and push it down Highway 33 to Loseth Road. There, the truck managed to make a right turn and the suspect loaded the machine into the back of the truck.

Owners of Canco are asking anyone for any information or who witnessed anything to step forward as the suspect was in the area for nearly two hours.

Black Press Media has reached out to Kelowna RCMP for more information.
