Though still getting some finishing touches, the Sicamous pump track is open and getting a lot of use. 

At the Aug. 14 Committee of the Whole, operations manager Darrell Symbaluk provided council with an update in the final weeks before the UCI Pump Track World Championships qualifier rolls into town on Sept. 7. 

"It's getting used really well, we're seeing activity up there all the time," he said, adding that they're working to remedy a viewing problem. "We've built some seating areas because once this track was done, we realized there's not a good vantage point anywhere around because it's down in a hole."

To fix that, public works brought in some cement blocks and fill to build up a few areas, and installed two sets of five-row bleachers the district already owned, with those able to hold about 50 people, and at the other end of a track is a three-row bleacher. Rails are on order and will be installed as soon as they're received. 

"So we've got some really good seating, an some good stand-up area along the side of it," Symbaluk said.

Council praised the work done, adding the facility has turned out really well and is getting a lot of use from both locals and people from neighbouring communities.

"That's just amazing how many people are coming, and it's just fun to go over and watch the little tykes, and even some of the adults enjoy the track," Coun. Gord Bushell said, adding to laughter that he hasn't "tried it myself yet... I have to get a helmet."
