UPDATE 1:00 P.M.:

The BC Wildfire Service confirmed that a structure fire was the source of smoke visible from Summerland to Peachland. 

Two crews did respond in order to make sure that the fire did not spread and turn into a wildfire. 

"As they didn't have the PPE and the training, they didn't action the fire themselves," said Kamloops fire centre information officer Taylor Colman. 

The fire itself is located outside of municipal boundaries and fire service coverage. 

It is not currently known what started the fire. 

ORIGINAL STORY:

A black plume of smoke can be seen coming from an area 10 km west of Summerland.

The smoke can be seen from downtown Peachland and has been billowing in the sky for more than an hour, Tuesday morning. 

Sean Thomas reported the smoke to BC Wildfire at about 10:30 a.m. and believes it is coming from the Faulder or Meadow Valley area. 

Faulder is a railway point that consists of many large acreages and agricultural farms.
