After noticing a void in resources available to people experiencing unsheltered homelessness, a group called Solidarity Sundays was formed and has been working to deliver care to those in need each week.
Since November 2022, volunteers with the mutual aid collective have provided food, harm reduction supplies, and other essential items to people living at Kelowna's city-managed encampment, called Tent City by those who shelter there.
Built on the principles of mutual aid, Solidatiry Sundays relies entirely on donations of funds and essentials from community members.
"These donations enable the collective to continue its important work and meet the growing needs of the most vulnerable in our community," said a volunteer with the organization who asked to remain anonymous to respect the non-hierarchical structure of the mutual aid collective.
In addition to monetary support, Solidarity Sundays is also collecting winter essentials and gifts that will be delivered to people living at Tent City during the holiday season.
"We are particularly in need of winter clothing and wrapped Christmas gifts for individuals at Tent City," said a representative from Solidarity Sundays.
Donations can be made through the organization's Patreon page ator by sending an e-transfer to solidaritysun@gmail.com. Follow the organization on
