UPDATE: 2 of 3 lightning-caused wildfires near Big White under control

A new wildfire has sparked just off Highway 33 in the Southeast Fire Centre

Lightning has sparked a handful of fires near Big White on Aug. 6, 2024.

UPDATE 1:55 p.m.

Wildfires close to Big White are quickly being doused.

Two of the wildfires are now under control, according to BC Wildfire Services. The fire close to Wolfe Creek remains out of control and 0.3 hectares in size.

All three fires were caused by lightning.

Update 11:50 a.m.

Two more wildfires have sparked near Big White. 

A new blaze started up west of Highway 33 near Wolfe Creek. The fire is 0.3 hectares in size. 

The other fire is east of Big White near Ptarmigan Creek and is estimated at 0.1 hectares. 

Both new starts were caused by lightning.

A new wildfire has sparked just off Highway 33 in the Southeast Fire Centre. 

The spot fire was caused by lightning and is estimated at 0.1 hectares.  

The fire is on the east side of the highway between Big White and Carmi.
