Prepare to be dazzled once the sun sets over the 2024 Westside Daze festival on July 12.
For the first time ever, the annual Westside Daze event will replace the fireworks celebration with a drone show.
Tina Bisson, the president of Westside Daze explained that the swap is in an effort to align with FireSmart Principals and to be responsible to the community. She said that after speaking with West Kelowna Fire Chief Jason Brolund it was decided that a drone show was in the best interest of the community.
"We're going to give it a whirl," said Bisson.
The show will be presented by an agency that advocates for best practices when it comes to mitigating the risk of wildfires on communities.
Additionally, Bisson explained that drones are a more reliable option than fireworks which, can be subject to cancellations for poor weather and dry conditions.
The show will begin at 10:30 p.m. over Memorial Park.
People are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the free, family-friendly show.
The display will begin after the final performer of the night completes their set on the main stage at Memorial Park.
