Former Kelowna Rocket Luke Schenn played in his 1,000th NHL game on Thursday, Oct. 17 while his former teammates and Rocket Tyler Myers is set to play to accomplish the milestone on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Former Kelowna Rockets teammates hit the same major milestone in the NHL this week.

On Thursday, Oct. 17, the Nashville Predators' Luke Schenn played in his 1,000th career NHL game and Vancouver Canucks defenceman Tyler Myers is set to do the same on Saturday night (Oct. 19) in Philadelphia.

They are the 398th and 399th players in the league's history to achieve the feat.

In 2006, Schenn and Myers became WHL teammates when the Rockets called up Myers for the last couple of months of the season. With Myers needing a place a live, he joined the billet family Schenn was staying with, making them roommates as well.

The two of them were both selected early in the first round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Schenn went fifth overall to the Toronto Maple Leafs while Myers went 12th to the Buffalo Sabres.

Now in his 17th season in the NHL, Schenn has played for Toronto, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Arizona, Anaheim, Vancouver, Tampa Bay, and Nashville. He has 198 points (43 goals, 155 assists) in his career and has won two Stanley Cups.

Myers, in his 16th season, has played for Buffalo, Winnipeg, and Vancouver. He has 371 points (93 goals, 278 assists) heading into his 1,000th game on Saturday night.

Schenn and Myers were teammates once again in Vancouver from 2021 to 2023.

Ahead of his 1,000th game, the Canucks surprised Myers with custom shirts to celebrate the occasion.

The two will get a chance to celebrate together when Vancouver and Nashville play each other for the first time this season on Sunday, Nov. 17.
