Naomi Klein will talk about climate change at UBC91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s Distinguished Speaker event Feb. 18 at the Kelowna Community Theatre.

UBC Okanagan91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s upcoming distinguished speaker Naomi Klein suggests we should forget everything we know about global warming. The truth, she says, is that it's not about carbon: it's about capitalism.

In her most provocative talk yet, Klein tackles the most profound threat humanity has ever faced: the war our economic model is waging against life on earth.

Klein argues that society91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s addiction to profit and growth is the environment91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s biggest concern. Climate change, she says, is a wake-up call, a powerful message delivered in the language of fires, floods, storms, and droughts. Confronting it is no longer about changing the light bulbs. It91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s about changing the world.

Klein91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s presentation, part of the UBC Okanagan91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s Irving K. Barber School's Distinguished Speaker Series, takes place Thursday, Feb.18, 7 p.m., at the Kelowna Community Theatre, 1375 Water St

This event is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required. Register online at or call 250-807-9950.
