An altercation outside a Salmon Arm pub ended with a post-fight cool-down in RCMP cells.

The fight outside a Lakeshore Drive SW business was reported to police at 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23.

The responding officer heard yelling around the building before seeing a 33-year-old man on top of a 36-year-old man, "with the man on the bottom screaming as if he'd been injured," explained Const. Andrew Hodges in a media release.

Hodges said the 33-year-old ran away as soon as he saw police. The officer pursued on foot, advising the man he was under arrest for assault. Mid-sprint the 33-year-old began to stumble, then tripped and fell, "allowing the officer to speak with him and attempt to de-escalate the man." Instead, Hodges said the 33-year-old stood up, faced the officer with clenched fists,  hurled an expletive and "appeared to be preparing to fight the officer." In response, the officer presented his taser, but Hodges said the man continued to disobey police commands.

"The man was tasered and formally arrested," said Hodges.

The officer then returned to the 36-year-old "who was yelling and screaming and subsequently arrested for causing a disturbance."

"Both men were lodged in cells overnight," said Hodges. "There were no injuries, and the fight was eventually deemed consensual after speaking with both men."
