Body found in Myra Canyon

The body of a man was found Monday afternoon at the foot of a Myra Canyon trestle, near Kelowna.

Hikers enjoying a walk in the Myra Canyon area Monday, June 27, made the grisly discovery of a body at the foot of one of the trestles.

The hikers called the Kelowna RCMP at around 3:30 p.m.

When they arrived police secured the area until until further resources could be brought in to do a thorough scene examination.

That investigation ruled out any evidence of foul play, and the body of the middle aged male was extricated by helicopter the next afternoon, June 28.

"The investigation is now in the hands of the coroner" said Const. Steve Holmes, "and the release of any further information will be at their discretion as police involvement is now concluded."

Holmes thanked Search and Rescue, saying, "Police would like to recognize the invaluable efforts of the Search and Rescue volunteers from the Kelowna and Penticton areas."
