A neighbour told the Morning Star that the residence, 206, has been a hotspot for drug use for "over a year."

"So many people would be hopping over my fence," the neighbour said. "There were close to 20 people who lived inside that place."

Witnesses said that inhabitants at 206 had recently had their power shut off, so they were using candles to illuminate the area.

Displaced residents are currently at Kal Tire Place, where city staff are making arrangements.

As of this time, the cause is currently under investigation, and there are no reports of injuries. Six of the units had fire damage, according to a city release.

Update: 10:30 a.m.

Firefighters have contained the blaze that broke out at a Vernon residential complex Sunday morning.

The fire started around 8:45 a.m. Nov. 3, at a building in the 4000 block of 34th Street, according to city spokesperson Josh Winquist.

Upon arrival, Vernon Fire Rescue Service crews discovered a unit in the complex fully engulfed in flames, with the fire extending to the roof and neighbouring suites.

Firefighters worked to quickly contain the blaze, but extensive mage was sustained by four units, as well as a recreational trailer that was parked in the parking lot.

As a result, several residents of the complex have been displaced, Winquist said.

The City of Vernon Emergency Support Services (ESS) program is providing assistance to the displaced residents.

There are currently no reports of injuries.

BC Emergency Health Services, RCMP, FortisBC and BC Hydro all attended the scene.
