UPDATE: Power restored for thousands in Vernon

A power outage in Vernon on Friday afternoon (Aug. 16) has left nearly 2,000 BC Hydro customers without power.

UPDATE 9:35 p.m.:

The lights are back on in Vernon.

Power has been restored for thousands of homes and businesses, who were without for nearly 6 hours due to a crash.


UPDATE 9 p.m.:

Power is still out for nearly 1,300 customers in south Vernon.

BC Hydro crew are on scene and power was expected to be restored at 9 p.m., but remains out for 1,286 customers.

That is down from the nearly 2,000 left powerless since 3:30 p.m.


ORIGINAL: Nearly 2,000 Vernon residents are without power on Friday afternoon, Aug. 16.

The outage, located west of 29th Avenue, started at 3:30 p.m. and is due to a car crash, according to BC Hydro. The area without power stretches over Beachcomber Bay, Okanagan Centre, South Vernon, and part of Highway 97 and impacts 1,753 customers.

A crew is on scene but power isn't estimated to be restored until after 9 p.m.
