City lowering flags to half-mast in honour of former Kelowna councillor Horning

Flags at city facilities throughout Kelowna will be lowered to half-mast on Saturday, June 10 to honour Al Horning, former councillor, MLA, MP, and community builder.

91ƵAl Horning represented the epitome of community service,91Ƶ said Mayor Tom Dyas. 91ƵHe was an inspiring leader whose years of dedicated public service in all three levels of government have resulted in a legacy of benefits for our community.91Ƶ

Horning, who was well known as the 91ƵChampion of Rutland,91Ƶ died on March 20.

He served as city councillor from 1980 to 1988 and from 2002 to 2005. Horning was instrumental in key projects, including the expansion of the Kelowna International Airport runway.

In February, Mayor Dyas announced that a new road, Al Horning Way, will be named in his honour, connecting the airport to Rutland.
