Cyclist stabs Kelowna driver

A physical altercation between the two men occurred where it is alleged that the cyclist stabbed the driver in the abdomen with a knife.

Police are investigating and a man faces potential charges, after a motor vehicle incident escalated to an altercation which led to a man being stabbed Saturday afternoon.

Kelowna RCMP received a report of a collision May 21 at 3:38 p.m.,  involving a black Dodge Ram pickup truck and a cyclist in the 400 block of Gramiak Road.

"Police determined that the cyclist had ridden out of a foot path and onto Gramiak Road when he collided with the rear passenger side quarter panel of the truck," said Const. Jesse O'Donaghey, in a press release.

"The driver of the vehicle reportedly stopped to offer assistance to the cyclist who responded with profanity and walked away.  Concerned for the cyclist91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s well-being the driver tried to follow the cyclist on foot."

The cyclist left the area briefly only to return to the scene where he allegedly confronted and threatened the driver91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s son who was holding an item believed to have been left at the scene by the cyclist.

"A physical altercation between the two men occurred where it is alleged that the cyclist stabbed the driver in the abdomen with a knife," he said.

The victim was transported to hospital by Emergency Health Service suffering from what police believe to be non-life threatening injuries. The victim91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s son was not physically injured during the incident.

The suspect, an 18-year-old Kelowna man, was arrested at the scene. He was also taken to hospital for an assessment. He was later released and faces potential charges of assault with a weapon and uttering threats.
