UPDATE: Groves Ave. house fire deemed accidental

Fire crews responded to a report of smoke rising from a home on Abbott Street in Kelowna.

A fire on Groves Ave this afternoon is being deemed accidental and electrical in nature by the Kelowna Fire Department.

Kelowna Fire Dispatch received a call reporting smoke coming from the upstairs window of a residence in the 400 block of Groves Ave. at about 2:30 this afternoon.

It broke out just an hour after the .

Arriving on scene the KFD saw black smoke showing from the side of the structure and firefighters quickly doused the flames and extinguished the fire.

Three fire engines, one rescue vehicle and a command unit, along with 15 personnel responded to the scene. No one was home and there were no injuries.

As of this evening three people and three cats are out of their home and in the care of emergency services.

Fire crews rushed to the scene of a blaze at a home on the 400 block of Groves Ave. near Abbott Street Thursday afternoon.

Two engines and an incident command unit arrived on scene and quickly extinguished the flames.

The fire appeared to have started in a dryer inside the residence.
