Some local residents are not following the rules around fire bans.

Vernon firefighters have responded to a number of small, human-caused grassland fires and open burning complaints throughout the city over the past week.

In all cases, the fires were quickly extinguished and there was no risk to structures or vehicles. The fires are not suspicious in nature.

The fire danger rating in Vernon remains at extreme.

Residents are reminded that a fire ban is in place for the City of Vernon, meaning campfires and open burning are prohibited until further notice.
