Chief Greg Gabriel has won re-election for the Penticton Indian Band, receiving more votes than Joseph Pierre and Timmothy Lezard.

The Penticton Indian Band held its own election on Oct. 19 for Chief, and re-elected Greg Gabriel to the position.

The election for the eight council positions will be next, with nominations opening on Oct. 23 and voting on Dec. 7.

Chief Gabriel was elected with 147 votes out of the 370 total cast.

Former band councillor Joseph Pierre received 105 votes, and current Band Councillor Timmothy Lezard received 110.

In a press release from the PIB, they announced that the election had the highest turnout in the band's history of elections.

After the council positions are filled in December, there will be a ceremony to welcome the band's new leadership.
