Kelowna fire chief Jeff Carlisle will call it a career today, stepping down after 43 years as a firefighter.
Carlisle, who has been chief of the Kelowna Fire Department for the last six years, and before that served as fire chief in both Vernon and for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in Alberta, was deputy chief in Fort McMurray. He started as a firefighter in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1974.
A ceremonial send-off for Carlisle will take place outside the main Kelowna firehall on Enterprise Way this afternoon.
Current deputy fire chief Lou Wilde will take over as chief on an interim bases until a full-time replacement for Carlisle is found.
