The Lake Country Art Gallery is hosting an outdoor potluck event designed to explore different languages and hold conversations in foreign tongues.
The Language Cafe and Living Books outdoor potluck event will focus on 91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵœdevloping the art of language in Lake Country through community conversations.91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ
The event is set for June 26 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Art House Garden (next to the Lake Country Art Gallery) at 10344 Bottom Wood Lake Road.
The gallery says the 91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵœLanguage Cafe is an opportunity to gather with community members and share conversations in various language, to chat about the weather in Spanish or marvel at the food in sign language. The Language Cafe lets you practice a language you are learning or dust off your mother tongue. Select a flag to place on your table, that table91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s conversation becomes the language of the country it represents and invites others to join you.91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ
Meanwhile, tables will be set aside for living books, an interpretation based on 'Living Libraries' which have been used since 2001 to create dialogue, promote understanding, and reduce prejudice. As part of the Language Cafe it will be a chance to hear stories from those who lived them first-hand. These 91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ˜human books91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™ will be available for visitors to meet with for up to 10 minutes each over a cup of tea. A living, breathing book you can ask questions or just simply listen.
