With news of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau resigning, North-Okanagan Shuswap MP Mel Arnold is speaking out.

Trudeau asked the Governor General to prorogue Parliament until at least March 24, 2025, as he will resign as leader of the Liberal Party of Canada once a new leader is chosen.

"At a time when Canadians face unprecedented challenges and threats, Trudeau has delayed the return of Parliament by at least eight weeks because of a political crisis within the Liberal party," said Arnold.

Arnold says suspending Parliament is not necessary and "Trudeau91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s political crisis" could have been avoided if the Liberals listened and called a federal election.

"Trudeau and Liberal MPs have ignored Canadians who are being forced to pay, once again, for the failures, corruption, and mismanagement of the Liberal government," said Arnold, citing Liberal scandals and corruption.

He points to last fall's Parliament work which was "undermined by the Liberal government91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s coverup of the $400 million Green Slush Fund scandal. Now the Liberals are hoping Canadians will forget about that scandal and the long list of Liberal scandals stretching back nine years.

"This failed Prime Minister and his Liberal enablers have repeatedly broken the trust that Canadians put in them; rather than fulfilling their responsibilities to serve Canada, the Liberals continue to serve themselves.

"Despite Trudeau91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s announcements today, I continue to work with my Conservative colleagues to bring home Canada91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s promise that every hardworking Canadian gets a powerful paycheque and pension that buys affordable food and homes on safe streets, where all are united for the country we know and love: Canada first, Canada last, Canada always," Arnold said.
