A Go Fund Me campaign has been started in support of Sicamous Fire Rescue Capt. Chris Wilson, who represented the department at the 2023 Remembrance Day ceremony, as he recovers from significant injuries sustained in a serious motorbike accident on Aug. 5.

An avid community supporter is now in need of support from the community.

As Sicamous firefighter Capt. Chris Wilson faces a long road to recovery after a serious motorbike collision on Aug. 5, his fire family has organized a Go Fund Me campaign to help him get back on his feet.

"Chris has dedicated his life to serving and protecting our community. As a captain of the Fire Department and chief of Eagle Valley Rescue, he has always been the first to respond in times of crisis, showing unwavering bravery and compassion," friend and comrade Lt. Shane McKellar said on the fundraiser website. "Now, Chris is need of our help."

The bike accident left Wilson with serious injuries that require extensive medical treatment, followed by lengthy rehabilitation, which will affect his ability to work. The Go Fund Me campaign, which is currently at $2,185 of its $15,000 goal, will help cover his medical and rehab expenses, and support him and his family throughout his recovery.

In an Aug. 13 interview, Wilson said the incident occurred out on Yankee Flats Road when a distracted driver crossed the centre line into his lane, trapping him underneath the vehicle. That left him with two broken hips, with doctors having to completely rebuild his left leg and use numerous rods and pins in his right. Wilson added that he was able to get up on a walker Tuesday morning, but has no idea when he'll be able to go home.

"Every donation, no matter how small, will make a huge difference in helping Chris get back on his feet," McKellar added. "Your support means the world to us and will help Chris focus on his recovery without the added stress of financial burdens."

Donations can be made on the  page titled Help Captain Chris Wilson Recover from a Motorcycle Accident.
