Michelle Mazur was named Miss Kelowna Lady of the Lake for 2016 at the pageant finale held Friday at the Kelowna Community Theatre.
Mazur replaces Camryn Peters, who has held the Miss Kelowna title for the last year.
Joining Mazur as Kelowna's official royalty ambassadors is Miss Kelowna First Princess Rachel Sousa.
Mazur, sponsored by Lordco, is a Grade 11 student at Kelowna Christian School who hopes to become a pediatrician so she can help children
Among her interests currently, Mazur works at the Cactus Club as a restaurant hostess, has reached out to help people in need through various programs at her school including traveling to India to work at a children's home in Subathu, sits on the student council, plays the trumpet in the school band, volunteers at Cottonwoods care home and is a member of the Polish Cultural Society dance group the Polish Eagles.
Sousa, the pageant runnerup, was sponsored by Rotory Club of Kelowna, and is a student entering Grade 12 at Kelowna Secondary School in the French Immersion program.
She also works as a hostess at the Cactus Club restaurant, studied dance at the Royal Canadian Ballet and plays a number of musical instruments. For her post-secondary studies, she plans to obtain her Bachelor of Science degree, and specialize in the area of neuroscience.
Mazur and Sousa will become representatives for the City of Kelowna at a number of events locally and abroad in the coming year.
