An Oliver man who was scheduled to be sentenced in Penticton91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s court was unable to attend due to an urgent hospital visit.

Arjen Jessy Alexander Huber was set to be sentenced on March 21 for three charges of driving while prohibited and one charge of flight from police.

Instead, his lawyer informed the courts that Huber had earlier in the week been the victim of a machete attack that severed one of his fingers.

Defence did not indicate whether Huber91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s attacker had been arrested or was known to him. The Western News has contacted the RCMP for comment.

Doctors were able to reattach the digit, however, on the morning of March 21 he returned to the hospital due to possible complications.

Huber was previously sentenced to six months house arrest in May of 2023, for charges unrelated to those he was dealing with on March 21. After the house arrest he was scheduled to be under a nine-month probation order.

The charges he was to be sentenced for were for incidents that occurred before the 2023 sentencing.

Huber91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s sentencing was put over to be rescheduled at a later, unspecified date.
