Penticton RCMP, fire crews respond to incident at Compass Court shelter

RCMP and the Penticton Fire Department were called to Compass Court on March 23 due to an individual who barricaded himself in a room. (Logan Lockhart - Western News)

Penticton RCMP and the Fire Department were called to an individual who barricaded himself inside a room at the Compass Court shelter.

Firefighters were called to the scene around 1:30 p.m. after smoke was reported to be coming from the room.

One man was seen being taken away by police. B.C. Emergency Health Services were also present at the scene.

A mattress was visible with burn damage outside the shelter and was photographed by police after the man was taken away.

Traffic was slow heading north along Main Street around the shelter area, until around 2 p.m.
