The City of Penticton has replaced Coun. James Miller from his positions on the library and regional district boards due to his ongoing criminal trial.

City council voted unanimously on Aug. 6 to appoint Coun. Ryan Graham to sit on the Penticton Library Board.

The vote also granted Coun. Isaac Gilbert the voting power that Miller held on the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen Board.

"This is purely to do with the continuance of adequate representation at the regional district board and because the representation on the library board is a voting position we need to ensure representation there as well," said Bloomfield.

Gilbert will now sit on the board along with Mayor Julius Bloomfield and Coun. Campbell Watt, Helena Konanz and Graham.

The next RDOS board meeting is scheduled for Aug. 15 and the next library board meeting is for Aug. 20.

Miller was put on mandatory leave after he was arrested on a Canada-wide warrant for historical sexual offences allegedly from his time in Sarnia, Ontario.

The offences allegedly occurred in 1989 when Miller was a youth basketball coach, according to the Sarnia Police Service.

He has been charged with two counts of sexual interference and two counts of sexual assault on a person under the age of 16 years old.

Miller's next scheduled court appearance is on Aug. 14.
