Bob McDonald has been working as a science journalist and an author for more than 30 years, most notably as the host of the CBC television program 91ƵQuirks and Quarks91Ƶ.

91ƵWhat we need is longterm thinking,91Ƶ McDonald tells 91ƵToday in B.C.91Ƶ host Peter McCully, discussing how to solve the planet91Ƶs climate crisis. 91ƵEnergy in the future is going to come from a lot of different sources. It91Ƶs going come from the sun, the wind, the tides the earth, waves, whatever. That91Ƶs the future. It91Ƶs going to be multiple and fossil fuels will be part of that.91Ƶ

The book is called The Future is Now: Solving the Climate Crisis With Today91Ƶs Technologies and discusses carbon fuels, biofuels, wind, tides, solar, nuclear and other alternative energy sources.

91ƵLet91Ƶs get over the fears and just move ahead with it and evolve our technology,91Ƶ said McDonald. 91ƵI really believe we can do that. We91Ƶve been to the moon and back, for God91Ƶs sakes. We91Ƶre very clever, we91Ƶre really smart. So let91Ƶs evolve our technology and prevent another mass extinction event, which would be us.91Ƶ

When asked if the opportunity arose for a seat on 91ƵBlue Origin91Ƶ and a trip to space, McDonald said: 91ƵI91Ƶll be there in a heartbeat, it91Ƶs been my dream to get into space.91Ƶ
