The Town of Princeton will see a massive investment in affordable day care, following a $10.3 million funding announcement from the Nicola-Similkameen School District.

Eighty childcare spaces will be created, including 50 for children under the age of five. Forty-two existing spaces will also be upgraded for a total of 122 spots, according to a press release issued Tuesday, Jan. 2.

A total of 74 of the spaces will be full-time daycare, while the balance will be for before-and-after school care.

The new daycare facility will be located at Riverside Learning Centre on Old Hedley Road. No timeline has been provided for construction and renovations.

Dollars for the project come from the ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund, a joint federal and provincial government initiative.
