A Surrey man identified as being behind the wheel of a rental car that was clocked doing excessive speeds through two White Rock school zones Monday has been slapped with more than $2,000 in fines.

White Rock RCMP Const. Chantal Sears said Tuesday that a grey Volkswagen Jetta first caught the attention of officers conducting school-zone enforcement at around 3 p.m. April 1, when it whipped past White Rock Elementary at 70 km/h.

91ƵThere was a vehicle that failed to stop for police at a high rate of speed,91Ƶ Sears told Peace Arch News.

91ƵAnd then he continued eastbound on Roper and then the next officer that was over at Peace Arch clocked him at 110, and he failed to stop for police a second time.91Ƶ

The legal limit in school zones is 30 km/h.
