About 200 cubic metres of rock needs to be cleared today after a rockslide cut off Highway 1, north of Hope.

Train traffic has been halted in the area and motorists are stranded after the rock slide crossed the highway Tuesday evening.

Staff Sgt. Robbie Drake with the Chilliwack RCMP says the rocks fell on to Highway 1, about 25 kilometres north of Hope, B.C.

She says the road is blocked, but no vehicles were hit in the slide and no injuries have been reported.

Drake says the slide was quite significant, stranding several vehicles on the south side of the blockage, including a Greyhound bus, and stopping train traffic in the area.

Crews were trying to get the vehicles turned around and off of the highway Tuesday night before a large amount of rain forecast for the area began to fall.

DriveBC says the highway is currently closed 750 metres east of Yale Tunnel due to the rockslide.

The estimated time of opening to single-lane-alternating traffic is between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m..

Detours are via Highway 5 and Highway 8.
