West Kelowna RCMP say a Wednesday evening crash claimed the life of a local motorcyclist.
The RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are still investigating the fatal collision between a pickup truck and a motorcycle.
On July 26 at 9:19 p.m., RCMP responded to a report of a collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck at the intersection of Highway 97 and Elk Road.
91ƵA northbound grey Suzuki motorcycle was struck by a red Dodge Dakota pickup truck, completing a left turn from the southbound lanes of Highway 97 eastbound onto Elk Road,91Ƶ said Cpl. Jesse O91ƵDonaghey.
91ƵThe rider of the Suzuki motorcycle, a 37-year-old West Kelowna man, was rushed to hospital in grave condition. Sadly he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased in hospital.91Ƶ
The driver of the Dodge pickup truck was treated at the scene for minor injuries and released.
91ƵA portion of the highway was closed for several hours and traffic was diverted around the scene, as RCMP collision analysts conducted a detailed examination of the crash scene,91Ƶ added O91ƵDonaghey.
91ƵExact causal factors are not yet known, however early indicators from witness accounts suggest that the speeds at which the motorcyclist was travelling may have been a factor.91Ƶ
West Kelowna RCMP and the RCMP Integrated Collision Analyst and Reconstructionist Services, continue to assist the BC Coroners Service in the still ongoing investigation.

A serious accident closed Highway 97 northbound in West Kelowna Wednesday evening.
The accident at Elk Road and Highway 97 at about 9:20 p.m. involved a red pickup truck and a motorcycle.
At least one person was rushed to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.
Northbound traffic is being rerouted at Butt Road.
