A Summerland woman will receive an award to recognize her contributions to the community.
Cathie Lauer, founding member of Tomorrow91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s Hope, will receive the King Charles III Coronation Medal to recognize her work.
Tomorrow91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s Hope provides support, information and resources to anyone diagnosed with breast cancer in the South Okanagan. The goal is that no one faces a breast cancer diagnosis alone and without information.
Lauer, a two-time breast cancer survivor, is also one of the founders of the Survivorship dragon boat team for breast cancer survivors.
According to federal government statistics, one in eight women in Canada will develop breast cancer during their lifetimes and one in 34 will die from it.
The King Charles III Coronation Medal is presented to those who have made a significant contribution to Canada or to a province, territory, region or community, or have made an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada.
During the year, 30,000 medals will be awarded.
The award for Lauer will be presented by MP Dan Albas at a special ceremony on Jan. 28 at 4:30 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in Summerland.
