The wildfire northwest of Revelstoke near the Mica Dam is still listed at more than 720 hectares, but BC Wildfire Services said the fire has grown.

The wildfire was discovered on Saturday (June 3) at Soards Creek 91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ” by yesterday (June 6), the fire was more than 700 hectares. Since yesterday, BC Wildfire Services have increased the number of personnel, heavy equipment, and air support dispatched to combat the blaze.

The current size of the fire listed on the BC Wildfire Services map says 200 hectares, but BC Wildfire Services confirmed yesterday that the blaze was actually significantly bigger at more than 700 hectares. Today, BC Wildfire Services said the fire had grown since yesterday, but couldn91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™t say how much it had increased because of heavy smoke that prevented them from track the fire from the air.

The wildfire is growing because of the terrain, which is drawing the blaze uphill.

BC Wildfire Services said 54 personnel worked on the fire today, including six helicopters, two dozers, two excavators, and two bunchers.

Two air tankers were also enlisted to help fight the wildfire and dropped retardant along the eastern flank to allow the heavy equipment to start building a control line.

The wildfire is still not flagged as a risk to infrastructure.
