UBC Okanagan students have organized a vigil this weekend in support of the victims of an earthquake that struck the South American country of Ecuador in April.
The vigil is also being combined as a fundraiser, set to take place on Sunday, 6 p.m., at Stuart Park in downtown Kelowna.
Behind organizing this event are Apapacho Latin American Student Association, other UBCO international students, UBCO student union and Kelowna's Global Minga91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ¨.
In mid-April, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Ecuador, killing more 700 people. Thousands more were injured and became homeless. Aftershocks and a second earthquake in May, registering 6.7, added to the country91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s struggle to recover.
