West Kelowna council is amending its budget for this year in light of the cost of last spring91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s flooding to the city.
While 100 per cent of the cost to deal with the floods and 80 per cent of the cost of recovering from them is covered by the province, the city says it will incur about $1 million in associate costs.
City staff told council earlier this week that the total recovery cost of the flooding to the city was $5.2 million.
West Kelowna is dealing with 45 different flood recovery projects, including asphalt buckling, creek repairs, damaged retaining walls, plugged storm drain systems, infilled treatment plant intake ponds and damage to parks.
The city will hire a flood recovery supervisor to manage the projects, work that is expected to take up to 18 months to complete.
Kelowna has already pegged the cost of its recovery from the spring flooding at between $9 million and $10 million.
