The British Columbia Hockey Conference (BCHC) and BC Hockey have announced details for this year's Mowat Cup, which will determine the B.C.'s Junior A Tier 2 champion. The announcement came with some significant changes.
When the BCHL departed to independent hockey, it left a void in sanctioned Junior A hockey programming in the province, prompting the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) and the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL) in 2023 to apply to become classified as Junior A, with their applications approved in July of 2024.
That then meant that a new championship, replacing the Cyclone Taylor Cup, would be played and the historic Mowat Cup was reborn last year, with the winning teams from the KIJHL, PJHL and the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) along with the Dynamiters from host city Kimberley competing for it.
Last year the Revelstoke Grizzlies won the inaugural Mowat Cup, defeating the Ridge Meadows Flames in overtime.
In 2025, the format has changed and the Mowat Cup will see the league champions from the KIJHL and the PJHL compete in a best-of-five series for the Mowat Cup in April. The PJHL champion will host games one and 2 and then the series will shift to the KIJHL champion's venue for the remaining contests, including games four and five, if necessary.
